it's almost here....

i dont really know where this year has gone? i guess you start thinking that when you get a bit older! it has been a great one...thanks for your support this year, 2010 will bring lots of new goodies and exciting new designs! the etsy store will be staying open over the holidays and orders posted as usual (dont forget the public holidays in between!!) there may even be a little blogging about some nifty stuff! enjoy your festive celebrations x

love to the op shop

When i was younger i didnt really understand the whole op shopping thing, i remember my mum taking me to a couple and thinking these arent the real "shops" where are all the new things? where are the sparkling lights? why isn't everything made from plastic? and where are all the multiple items in 6 different sizes and 50 different colour combinations?

well i think i have certainly moved on since then! (thank goodness...) i love op shops and the treasures you can find in them, i love that you can ponder where the object has come from? who owned it? where did it sit in their house? what was it used for? and its such a brilliant form of recycling and a great way to contribute to charity. People who work for organisations like the salvos, st vinnies, good sammys and more do a fantastic job and a great service to our society. I regularly browse my local for finds and i love dropping in a bunch of my stuff hoping that someone else will find a little treasure for themselves.

i decided to get up super early today and wrap up my christmas shopping (bad pun i know!) and i thought maybe a computer free morning was in order, maybe sitting quietly and reading the mountain of magazines i bought yesterday...well i couldn't resist and glad i didn't because to my surprise robot was on my home page thanks to frankie! robot and i heart you very much!

just wanted to share my delicious honey! every year around christmas we receive some pots from alex's grandad who keeps bees in south west WA and this year we got the blackbutt honey similar to jarrah but even more delicious... the Blackbutt trees are becoming rare due to logging so i feel very fortunate!

saturday slowdown

Well there is not long until Christmas now and it seems that everyone has gone into overdrive crazy shopper mode! If you want to avoid the crazy shoppers there is a great design market on today in Leederville called Unwrapped, from 10am – 5pm at the Tafe Campus on Oxford street check it out if you have a chance…..

market wrap

Market season is over for me this year … I love doing markets because I love to see and meet the people who buy my stuff, I like hearing about where they are going to put it up in their house, what outfit it is going to go with and who it will make a perfect gift for! A little self indulgent really?
The last market I did was subi upmarket a part of the subi festival, it was good, my very first night market! the customers were different to the perth upmarket crowd who are passionately there to buy, buy buy and chat of course (which I love)…. There was plenty of browsing and lots of really cool side events and entertainment. Probably the only things I would knock would be the lighting, I think they ran out of time to put up the spot lights, my stall was not too bad but other people were really in darkness which makes it a bit hard for people to view your wares and I guess the price for a hotdog was a little extravagant at $6 a pop I guess this is the price you pay for eating junkfood! But all in all I think market season was great this year, next year perth upmarket is going to move to UWA which I think will be great for the customers because I often hear about how cramped it is and how hard parking was to find, so the new venue will be fab! Thanks for all of your market day support this year its been wonderful….

thursday night treat!

we are taking part in the subi street festival this thursday from 5pm - 9pm so make sure you come down and say hi, we will be located on rokeby rd just near witchery, it will be a great evening with lots of fun planned! so mark it in your diary, with over 80 fab retailers i am sure you will find all of those perfect pressies you have been looking for!

also if you are looking for something yum to eat on thursday night definitely check out jus burgers just around the corner on roberts rd one word amazing, two words totally amazing! original lamb burger with mint chutney is my pick...

i will be the first to admit that yes sometimes i whine about perth and things like the price of coffee and lack of awesome stuff to do and the fact that people dont serve lunch after 2pm etc etc...but i am totally in love with the growing arts & design scene happening at the moment, there are so many fab new market days and new shops popping up, its all a bit exciting as our city changes!! so many designers coming out of the woodwork and selling their wares, just fabulous! here are some purchases from my visit to made on the left today...

new pretty things!

Whilst studying design i became quite obsessed with trying to use acyclic and perspex in my assignments, maybe because i was attracted to shiny things? anyway, here we are six years later (geez..dont i feel old!) and i have been drawn back to shiny things! here is a little peek at one of my new brooch designs laser cut from black acrylic/perspex, will this finally be the start of a champ + rosie acrylic and plastics range? mmm...i hope so! a whole lot better than any design assignment i have ever submitted, keep an eye out for big eyed owls and girly tpots popping up soon! mr bird is available to buy here and he will also be making an appearance at perth upmarket.

friday fattener

Today i discovered the lovely world of homemade pikelets! probably one of the most simple things to make ever, only 4 ingredients needed. I dont think I would ever buy any store made ones ever again! totally yum with a bit of jam (maybe some cream if you want to be a little more decadent!)...anyway the real post is about a couple of markets on this sunday in Perth i wont be selling at them but i will be buying!

First is distracted little market day put on by distracted merchants of fancy, a glorious husband and wife team, the market runs from 10am - 4pm this sunday 25th october at the rear of their store 24 Oxford Street, Leederville. Entry will be from Marian Street. Two dear ladies i studied with will be selling their wares there, under their label of Mitchell & Dent along with the super talented perth crafter craftapolooza i am not sure who else will be there but i think thats part of the excitement! then i will be heading just a few suburbs away to the subiaco craft fair which is also from 10am - 4pm held on the oak lawn at UWA Hackett Drive, Crawley. I will definitely be checking out some future shelter wares, their lamps are just gorgeous! hopefully i can pop up some pics of the day and purchases too!
